Steps

  1. 01

Step into the standing calf machine with the shoulders under the pads and hands on the handles; balls of the feet on the edge of the block, heels hanging free, feet hip-width, toes forward.

  2. 02

Stand tall with the knees slightly bent and kept fixed, core braced, body in one line from head to ankles.

  3. 03

Exhale and raise the heels as high as possible onto the balls of the feet and the base of the big toes; pause 1–2 seconds at the top and squeeze the calves.

  4. 04

Inhale and lower the heels under control below the level of the block until the calves are clearly stretched; pause briefly before the next rep, no bouncing.

  5. 05

Keep the knee angle unchanged throughout so the ankle does the work; without a machine, do it with a barbell on the back or dumbbells in hand on the edge of a step.

Common mistakes

  • Bouncing quickly up and down with no pause at the bottom.
  • Bending and straightening the knees to lift the weight.
  • Short range with the heels never dropping below the block.
  • Toes pointing inconsistently, or leaning forward and hanging on the handles.

Before logging, know the load basis

This exercise is logged as:

Machine stack
Record the stack number shown on that machine; comparable on the same machine only · Load + reps
Reps basis: total reps

The log page labels the basis next to the input. Different bases are never compared directly or merged into one personal best.
